1. Introduction of Materials Chemistry
The Department of Materials Chemistry was developed from the Department of Basic Chemistry, in 2002 approved the establishment of materials chemistry, and in 2008 approved the establishment of a master's degree in Physical Chemistry. Material chemistry is an emerging discipline with the characteristics of combining science with engineering and crossing disciplines, combines the combination of materials science and chemical science as a growth point, and combines chemical theory with material science theory, therefore, the chemical material has unique superiority and broad prospects for development. The characteristic research direction of the department is energy conversion materials chemistry and aerospace functional materials chemistry, mainly research new materials design, preparation, performance, application and their relationship between each other. In recent years, the specialty of materials chemistry has gradually played an important role in the frontier science fields such as energy, information, environment and space, and the professional ranking has been located in forefront of the national specialty of materials chemistry.
2.Teachers and Scientific Research
There are 20 full-time teachers in the Department of materials chemistry, including 5 professors, 10 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, 4 lecturers, 4 doctoral tutors, 11 master tutors. Among them, there are 1 person in the new century talents decided by the Ministry of education, 1 members of the national level institute, 1 members of the SCI journal editorial board, 4 talents were returned from abroad, and more than 50% teachers have the experience of studying abroad. In scientific research, the Department of Materials Chemistry research direction closely around the country's major strategic needs such as new energy, environment, aerospace, etc. The Department of materials chemistry has made many important innovations in the fields of energy conversion, materials and aerospace functional materials, has won more than 10 provincial and ministerial awards including the two prize of national invention. In the past five years, the Department of Materials Chemistry has undertaken 11 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 20 scientific and technological projects at the provincial and ministerial level, including the 863 project of military products, the key projects of the Natural Science Foundation of Heilongjiang Province and the key projects of the Aerospace Science Foundation. At the same time, the Department of Materials Chemistry published more than 200 articles included in SCI, won two scientific and technological awards in Heilongjiang Province, the relevant research results were Science, Chem. Soc. Rev. and other authoritative magazine quoted reports, it has received extensive attention from both domestic and foreign counterparts. In the aspect of teaching, for nearly five years, the Department of chemistry of materials has undertaken 1 national programme, 9 provincial teaching projects, and obtained 1 higher education teaching achievement first prize of Heilongjiang Province, 2 school level teaching achievement awards. The teacher is responsible for the school's physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and chemical engineering and other teaching tasks, among them, there are 1 famous teacher in Harbin Institute of technology and 1 teaching rookie in Heilongjiang province.
3. Famous scholars and teaching leaders
4. Students cultivate characteristics
This major aims at training applied scientific talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique and beauty, which have a solid basic chemistry theoretical knowledge, experimental skills and some basic knowledge of engineering materials. In addition, they can be engaged in teaching, scientific research, production, technical development and operation management in various enterprise units, including Institutions of higher learning, Research institutes, National defense, Energy chemicals, Materials engineering and so on. For many years, major has always attached importance to cultivate students’ innovative thinking and innovation ability. While ensuring the high level of teaching quality, it has formed a professional construction model which aims to cultivate students' innovative consciousness and practical ability. The major undergraduates have published several research papers in international journals such as J. Phys. Chem. C (IF= 4.772), J. Hazard. Mater. (IF= 4.529) as the first author, and on behalf of Harbin University participated in the National College Students Innovation Forum for two years. As a result of outstanding achievements in innovation, professional students Liu Yuan won the seventh China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award
Students of this major mainly study four series of courses, include natural science foundation series, public basic and humanities social foundation series, specialized curriculum series and practice and Innovation Series Physical Chemistry. Basic technical courses include Physical chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Principles of Chemical Engineering, and Instrumental Analysis. Professional backbone courses include Functional Materials, Fundamentals of Materials Chemistry, Crystal Chemistry and Computational Chemistry.
In recent years, among the graduates, there are about 30% students for admission to pursue post-graduate master's degree every year, and 10% of the students go to Korea, Taiwan and other regions to exchange visits through various international exchanges projects. Nearly five years of major nearly 70% of students choose to further study in top universities at home and abroad, including Harbin Institute of Technology, Peking University, China University of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Imperial College of Technology, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Florida and so on. The whereabouts of graduates are mainly large and medium-sized enterprises, scientific research institutes and government departments. Some of the graduates were employed by large state-owned enterprises and the world's top 500 foreign companies, such as CNPC, Shanghai electric, aerospace technology group, ZTE, Procter & Gamble and Dow Chemical. Some of them have become senior managers.
