On the morning of July 21, 2026, the 136th session of the "Mingde Lecture" series, hosted by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, was successfully held in the Mingli Academic Lecture Hall. This session featured Professor Dong-pyo Kim, Director of the Center for Intelligent Microprocess of Pharmaceutical Synthesis at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH)and a recipient of the National High-Level Talent Program under China’s Ministry of Education, who gave a lecture entitled “Accelerating Bespoke DDS-Nanomedicines via Intelligent and Automated Microfluidics.” The lecture was chaired by Prof. Wang Lei from the School.
Professor Kim reviewed recent advances in applying microfluidic technology to the development of drug delivery systems (DDS), focusing especially on an AI-driven closed-loop automated experimentation platform built by his research group. By coupling machine learning algorithms with real-time microfluidic control, the platform can autonomously optimize key process parameters, including flow rate, concentration, and temperature. It realizes precise regulation of the structure and function of target materials and substantially shortens the development cycle for nanomedicines. Rooted in cutting-edge research in the discipline, the lecture sparked lively exchanges and in-depth discussions among faculty and students present.
Professor Kim is a world-renowned expert in microreactor-assisted synthesis and intelligent pharmaceutical manufacturing. He previously served as a Professor at POSTECH and a Senior Researcher at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), and he founded FlowMedi to advance the industrial translation of his research findings. In 2025, he was selected for the National High-Level Talent Program under China’s Ministry of Education. His research outputs have been published in top international journals such as Science and Nature Communications.

The "Mingde Lecture,” a flagship academic brand cultivated by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, regularly invites distinguished scholars from China and abroad for academic exchanges. This 136th session offered faculty and students a firsthand look at the cutting edge of AI-driven microfluidics for nanomedicine development, further demonstrating the platform’s value as a center for high-level interaction. Moving ahead, the School will keep leveraging this brand to foster channels for in depth dialogue and a collaborative innovation ecosystem. Through sustained regular high-level academic activities, it strives to boost the School’s fundamental research capability and overall academic performance.
