From July 13 to 17, 2026, under the guidance of the Undergraduate School of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering hosted its first HIT Global Summer School (HITGSS) for undergraduate students. With the theme of “Chemistry Leads the Future, Innovation Empowers Applications”，the summer school attracted outstanding undergraduate students from Spain, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and multiple domestic universities, embarking on a five-day academic and cultural journey.
On the morning of July 13, the summer school officially commenced. In his opening address, Prof. Qi Dianpeng, Assistant Dean of the School, reviewed the century-long educational history of HIT, and systematically introduced the School’s distinctive strengths in discipline development and talent cultivation, demonstrating its profound educational heritage and vigorous development momentum. Prof. Lin Kaifeng gave a detailed explanation of teaching arrangements and logistics, and related support, with the aim of creating a reassuring and comfortable environment for the visiting students.
Teaching Scene
The summer school featured a strong faculty team. The School invited leading scholars from top universities in Russia and Germany, who joined renowned experts from Beijing Institute of Technology and HIT to form the teaching team, delivering a progressive training system comprising 12 credit hours of core courses, 12 credit hours of frontier lectures, and 8 credit hours of innovative experiments. In the classroom, the experts and scholars delved into cutting-edge theories in chemistry and chemical engineering with an emphasis on heuristic teaching methods, presenting in multiple dimensions the differentiated pedagogical philosophies and innovative thinking of different countries. In the laboratory, students from various countries performed precise operations on sophisticated instruments under the guidance of tutors, and honed their hands-on skills through innovative experiments, bridging the path from textbook theory to experimental practice. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds interacted intensively in seminars, where the collision of ideas sparked intellectual inspiration, and cross-border exchanges fostered sincere friendship.

On the afternoon of July 17, the closing ceremony was held. Prof. Lu Songtao, Vice Dean of the School, together with international guests, presented certificates of completion to the participants. Afterwards, all participants visited the HIT Space Museum and the campus under the guidance of faculty members, experiencing firsthand the University's cultural heritage and research culture. Participants generally reflected that the trip to HIT was enriching and rewarding, broadening their international perspectives and strengthening their confidence in pursuing careers in the chemical engineering field.

The successful organization of this international summer school marks a key milestone in the School’s deepening internationalization strategy. It has not only significantly enhanced the School’s international reputation and influence, but also built a high-level academic exchange platform for outstanding undergraduates worldwide. Looking ahead, the School will continue to uphold the philosophy of open education, deepen substantive cooperation with universities worldwide, actively explore new paradigms for international interdisciplinary talent cultivation, and build a strong reserve of outstanding talent to advance frontier developments in the global chemical industry.
