In order to better align with major national strategic priorities and frontier developments in engineering science and technology, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering successfully held the Second Academic Forum for Professional Master’s and Doctoral Students on July 13.. The forum invited experts from relevant industries and enterprises were invited to participate in in-depth exchanges.  The purpose of this activity is to further promoting university–enterprise collaboration, industry–education integration, and interdisciplinary development. Shaopeng Wu, Deputy Director of the Training Division of the Graduate School, and Guanghui Liu, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, attended the forum. The opening ceremony was chaired by Shuaifeng Lou, Vice Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Shaopeng Wu fully recognized the remarkable strengthsof the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in the cultivation of professional master’s and doctoral talents. He noted that measures such as appointing high-level enterprise technical experts as part-time off-campus supervisors and implementing a dual-supervisor system have significantly enhanced the engineering and technological characteristics as well as the practical value of graduate theses. He expressed the hope that the School would take this Frontier Forum for Professional Master’s and Doctoral Students as an opportunity to continue building platforms for professional graduate students to showcase their talents and engage in academic exchange, and to encourage them to be guided by national strategic needs, contributing their wisdom and efforts to accelerating the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance.

Guanghui Liu introduced the School’s collaborative talent cultivation framework that has been continuously advanced in the training of professional master’s and doctoral students. This framework features an integrated model of industry–education integration, university–local collaboration, and competition–innovation combination, as well as a “university–enterprise–institute–government” collaborative innovation platform. These initiatives have broadly opened up extensive pathways for students. They enable student to engage with enterprises, participate in innovation, and promote entrepreneurship, injecting strong momentum into the cultivation of outstanding engineers for the new era. He encouraged students to cherish the valuable opportunity provided by this forum, to address both disciplinary foundations and engineering applications, benchmark against major industrial demands, and focus on key priority areas, while carrying out in-depth and extensive academic exchange and research.

The forum consisted of  one plenary session and ten parallel sub-fora for academic exchange. Centered on the conference theme of “Aerospace Energy Materials and Intelligent Green Chemical Engineering,” the forum featured presentations by renowned experts from related fields, focusing on frontier academic developments and addressing cutting-edge engineering applications through in-depth and wide-ranging discussions. Keynote lectures were delivered by Prof. Qian Zhao, Chair of the Science and Technology Committee of Sinoma Science & Technology Co., Ltd. and Director of the National Key Laboratory for Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composites; Prof. Zhenming Li from the Energy Storage Research Institute, China Electric Power Research Institute; and Researcher Changwei Liu from the Institute of Petrochemistry, Heilongjiang Academy of Sciences. Their keynote reports were entitled “Design and Preparation Technologies for Fiber Preforms and Their Applications,”“Power Energy Storage: Demands, Current Status, and Challenges,” and “Research on High-Temperature, Lightweight Polyimide Composite Sandwich Structures and Adhesive Technologies,” respectively.

More than 200 faculty members and students from the School participated in the discussions held in the sub-fora.In the parallel sessions, a total of 96 PhD students delivered oral presentations . They showcased their stage-wise research progress, engaging in discussions with on-site experts, and sharing their research insights and experiences. Following evaluation by the attending experts, 61 students were selected for the Excellent Presentation Awards, including 10 Gold Awards, 20 Silver Awards, and 31 Bronze Awards. At the closing ceremony, Jingxue Sun, Director of the Faculty Development Sub-Center of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, delivered a concluding address. Subsequently experts presented certificates to the award-winning doctoral students and took group photos with them.

This edition of the forum boasted rich and diverse content. It effectively showcased the latest research achievements of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in cutting-edge fields such as energy supply and materials manufacturing for extreme environments. It provided a platform for professional master’s and doctoral students to present their work and engage in mutual exchange, while also offering the broader faculty and student community a high-level academic forum. The forum further inspired professional graduate students to be guided by national strategic needs, to pool their efforts toward original and pioneering scientific and technological breakthroughs.n this way, they could contribute to accelerating the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance.
