On September 28-30, 2025, the 4th National Conference on Fine Chemicals was successfully held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. With the theme of “Molecular Design Opens New Tracks, Microchemical Engineering Systems Lead the Intelligent Manufacturing Trend”, the conference was jointly sponsored by the Fine Chemicals Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society and the Editorial Office of Fine Chemicals, hosted by Harbin Institute of Technology, and co-organized by Sinoma Science & Technology - National Key Laboratory of Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composite Materials, Harbin Engineering University, Heilongjiang University, Qiqihar University, Northeast Petroleum University, Petrochemical Research Institute of Heilongjiang Academy of Sciences, Dalian Fine Chemical Society, and Liaoning Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.

Wei Hua, Supervisor of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China; Xiaojun Peng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chair of the Fine Chemicals Committee of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China; Fen’er Chen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor of Fudan University, and President of Jiangxi Normal University; Yudong Huang, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology and President of its Shenzhen Campus; Hui Xu, Vice President of Heilongjiang University; and Qian Zhao, Director of the National Key Laboratory of Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composite Materials, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Nearly 400 representatives from universities, research institutes, and industry enterprises nationwide participated in the conference, including five academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 55 national-level outstanding talents. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wu Xiaohong, Dean of the school of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology.

Wei Hua stated that the theme of this conference profoundly reveals that the fine chemical industry is undergoing a holistic and systemic paradigm shift in innovation.  He expressed the hope that this conference would serve as a high-level platform to stimulate ideas and promote cooperation, clarify development directions through forward-looking topics, cultivate an innovation ecosystem with a long-term perspective, and inject a continuous stream of intellectual support and innovation momentum into the sustainable and high-quality development of the fine chemical industry.

 Xiaojun Peng stated that this conference aims to conduct in-depth discussions on cutting-edge technologies and development trends in the field of fine chemicals, jointly injecting new momentum and chart new pathways for promoting the high-quality development of Chinas fine chemical industry. The conferencefocus on major national needs and industrial bottlenecks, concentrating efforts on breakthroughs in key technological related to high-end specialty chemicals and core process equipment, and strengthening the security of industrial and supply chains. At the same time, by promoting exchanges and mentorship between senior scholars and young talents, it will consolidate the talent foundation for the industry’s high-quality development.

  Yudong Huang stated that Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) steadfastly upholds its motto of “Strict Standard and Sufficient Effort,” and over the past century has been guided by its aerospace characteristics and outstanding engineering strengths to deeply serve major national projects. In the new century of development, HIT is advancing toward the front ranks of world-class universities under the mission of “China’s Leading Aerospace University.”. As an important pillar supporting new engineering education and the scientific research system , the school of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering  has deeply cultivated cutting-edge fields such as intelligent synthesis of high-end chemicals, green catalysis, and microchemical engineering systems, forming distinctive advantages and generating innovative achievements in both defense and civilian sectors. He expressed the hope that this conference, expert wisdom could be brought together to focus on “molecular design” and “microchemical engineering systems,” promote interdisciplinary collaboration and industry-academia-research-application synergy, buil an innovation community, accelerate the transformation of research outcomes, integrate academic research into the overall national development strategy, and solidifying the scientific and talent foundation for the high-quality development of fine chemicals and the cultivation of new-quality productive forces.

Hui Xu stated that the fine chemical industry is currently undergoing a green, low-carbon, and circular transformation, which not only opens up new spaces for scientific research but also presents new research topics for universities. Heilongjiang University’s chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science disciplines are deeply rooted in the industry needs, actively aligning with national and provincial development strategies, focusing on areas such as biochemical engineering and novel catalytic materials, and promoting deep integration of industry, academia, and research. Through this conference, he expressed the hope of working with experts and industry leaders to diagnose challenges and propose solutions for the efficient utilization of Heilongjiang’s resources and the high-quality development of the fine chemical industry, transforming resource endowments into economic advantages and yielding fruitful outcomes of collaborative innovation on Heilongjiang’s black soil.

Qian Zhao stated that the National Key Laboratory of Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composite Materials has always regarded promoting the deep integration of industry, academia, and research as one of its core missions. He expressed the hope that this conference would transcend traditional academic exchanges, and become a high-level platform for building consensus, aligning demands, and facilitating cooperation, thereby fostering more flexible and efficient collaborative innovation paradigms, jointly enhancing China’s overall competitiveness in the fields of fine chemicals and new materials, enabling China's fine chemicals industry to take the initiative in the new landscape of global technological competition, and contributing crucial strength to the country’s grand vision of building a manufacturing powerhouse.

The conference featured five parallel forums, including plenary session and sub-forums on “Precision Synthesis of Bio-based Chemicals,” “Microreactor Manufacturing and Continuous Flow Processes,” “Specialty Polymer Molecular Engineering,” “Industry–University–Research Collaborative Transformation Mechanisms,” and the “Women Scientists Forum.”. A total of seven plenary reports, nearly 100 specialized sub-forum presentations, and more than 20 poster presentations by young scholars were conducted. Experts and scholars closely followed the main theme of high-end, intelligent, and green transformation and upgrading of the fine chemical industry, engaging in multi-dimensional and in-depth discussions to explore technological breakthroughs, innovative pathways, and directions for industrial transformation, fully demonstrating China’s innovative achievements in fine chemicals and the excellent pursuit of its scientific community.

  On the morning of September 30, the conference concluded successfully. The closing ceremony was presided over by Liu Guanghui, Party Secretary of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology.. In his closing remarks, Academician Weihong Zhu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of East China University of Science and Technology, noted that this conference brought together top experts, scholars, and industry leaders in the field of fine chemicals from home and abroad, and resulting in a series of fruitful discussions and remarkable outcomes. He expressed the hope that the achievements of the conference would be translated into concrete actions, a closer academic exchange network would be built, the deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application would be promoted, and an open and inclusive innovation ecosystem would be jointly cultivated, contributing wisdom and strength to achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and building China into nation in science and technology.

 The National Conference on Fine Chemicals is the largest and most influential academic conference in the field of fine chemicals in China. The conference provides a high-level exchange platform for fine chemicals and plays a vital role in promoting close cooperation between industry, academia, and research.
