The second Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhou Forum for International Young Scholars-Chemical and Chemical sub-forum was successfully held from December 30th to 31st 2017.

On the afternoon of December 30th , the academic symposium of the sub-forum on Chemical and Chemical Engineering was held at Room 331of the Activity Center. Dean Huang Yudong, Secretary of the Party Committee Yue Huimin, Vice-Presidents Lu Weihong, Wu Xiaohong, Du Chunyu and faculty heads, young teachers and postgraduates all participated in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Wu Xiaohong, our vice dean. Dr. Yu Hengzhi from Oxford University, Dr. Xu Yunfei from Harvard University, Dr. Liu Le from Geneva University in Switzerland, Dr. Chen Xingkuan from postdoctoral fellow at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, Dr. Li Tianyi from Dresden University of Technology Germany, and Dr. Kong Li from Leiden University Netherlands took turns to present and all of them made excellent reports on their researches. Participants exchanged ideas and discussed on the frontiers of chemical engineering, chemistry and materials.

  

After the meeting, the leaders and department heads of our school talked with the young scholars at the Activity Center 320. In the welcoming speech of Huang Yudong, Huang first welcomed and thanked 6 scholars who came to participate in the Shenzhou Forum. Then he introduced the faculty members of our school, students' enrollment system, major setup, research directions, basic and applied research performance as well as international exchange and cooperation. Yue Huimin introduced the HIT’s talent attraction policy in details. He said that since the school has now moved to a new building, the research space conditions for teachers and students had been greatly improved. Our school will try its best to provide full support to talents. He expressed his hope that all young talents will make a joint effort for the development of the school. Professor Wang Jiajun and Professor Fang Xikui, winners of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts” (known as “the Thousand Talents Plan”) of the state Central Organization Department respectively shared their experiences from the applications to the start-up in Harbin Institute of Technology. They recalled freedom and flexibility of doing scientific research at Harbin Institute of Technology and they were able to focus on research areas of their interest. Leaders at all levels in our school as well as the university show great appreciation to the attraction of talents. Under general limited space and hardware conditions, they tried their best to help solve various problems and relieved many worries to facilitate their scientific research work. The 6 overseas young scholars attending the symposium further introduced themselves and raised questions about the details of talent attraction program, the conditions of research and living, and relevant policies of schools and university. Attending leaders gave detailed answers to their questions.

  

On the morning of December 31st, under the guide of Yue Huimin and Wu Xiaohong, young scholars visited the laboratories and offices of the new chemical building and had better feelings about the conditions for scientific research and the office environment.
